Former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag is reportedly considering surrendering in relation to the killing of radio broadcaster Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa and New Bilibid Prison (NBP) inmate Cristito “Jun Villamor” Palana in October 2022. Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed that Bantag contacted one of his colleagues in the Cabinet to inquire if surrender was possible, signaling that he understands how difficult it is to hide from the law. Two courts—the Las Piñas City and Muntinlupa City regional trial courts—have issued warrants of arrest against Bantag over the two murders. Bantag’s surrender is yet to be confirmed, but it is critical in the ongoing investigation.
Former BuCor chief Gerald Bantag, wanted for the murder of a radio broadcaster and a prison inmate, has expressed intentions to surrender.
