Former British Prime Minister David Cameron Returns to Government as Foreign Minister Amid Controversy

Just a week ago, on November 13, the world was shocked by unexpected news about the return of former British Prime Minister David Cameron to the government. This time, however, the former leader of Great Britain will sit in the chair of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. This happened shortly after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the removal of Interior Minister Sewell Braverman. Meanwhile, the challenges of the position of Minister of the Interior were taken over from Braverman by the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, James Cleverley.

Sunak ordered Braverman to resign Monday morning over her criticism of police work. Braverman last week published an op-ed in the Times accusing British police of “double standards” regarding recent protests. In her article, the former interior minister stated that the police are stricter with right-wing demonstrators who support Israel, but more lenient with the participants of the Palestinian support march. However, as the media reports, this is not the first time that the Minister of Internal Affairs has found herself in controversial situations.

Currently, according to the media “The Guardian”, all signs show that next year’s general elections in Great Britain will lead to a change of power in the leading elite. However, at a time when the world is experiencing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Israel’s war with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, risks related to the outcome of the 2024 US presidential election and other challenges, it would be wrong and irresponsible to think that the current composition of the UK government does not matter.

Many questions have been raised about Sunak’s decision to return the ex-prime minister to the British government, given that Cameron’s legacy after Brexit and other decisions during his government is still considered controversial.
