Former ‘Boy Meets World’ Stars Share Their Experiences with Convicted Sexual Abuser Brian Peck
In a recent episode of their podcast, Pod Meets World, former ‘Boy Meets World’ stars Rider Strong, Will Friedle, and Danielle Fishel opened up about their experiences with guest star Brian Peck, who was convicted of sexual abuse. The trio, along with family therapist Kati Morton, discussed their interactions with Peck and the impact it had on their lives.
Peck appeared in two episodes of the show’s fifth season and developed a friendship with both Friedle and Strong. As the podcast’s format usually revolves around episode recaps, the cast felt the need to address Peck’s involvement because his episodes were coming up. Additionally, Peck’s story will be featured in an upcoming docuseries that explores allegations of abuse on multiple Nickelodeon sets called Quiet on Set.
During the podcast episode, Friedle shared his personal connection with Peck, stating, “The person he presented was this great, funny guy who was really good at his job, and you wanted to hang out with.” Friedle revealed that he spent a significant amount of time with Peck, attending shows together and considering him a close friend. Strong also admitted to spending a lot of time with Peck, despite their 20-year age difference.
Fishel raised concerns about the lack of questioning from adults on the set of ‘Boy Meets World’ regarding Peck’s relationship with the younger cast members. She speculated that some may have been hesitant to address the issue due to fear of being labeled as homophobic. Fishel emphasized the importance of recognizing boundaries between adults and children, regardless of sexual orientation.
In 2003, Peck was charged with and eventually convicted of a lewd act against a child and oral copulation of a person under 16. Friedle revealed that Peck immediately began shifting blame onto his victim, portraying himself as the victim instead. Strong expressed his shock at the severity and number of offenses, as they were unaware of the full extent of the charges at the time.
Both Friedle and Strong wrote letters to the judge in support of Peck and even appeared in court during his sentencing. Friedle described the experience as horrifying, especially when the victim’s mother confronted them, saying, “Look at all the famous people you brought with you. And it doesn’t change what you did to my kid.” Friedle expressed his deep remorse and struggle to articulate his emotions regarding the situation.
Vulture attempted to contact Peck for comment, but there has been no response thus far.
The revelations shared by the former ‘Boy Meets World’ stars shed light on the complex dynamics that can occur behind the scenes of beloved television shows. It serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining boundaries and protecting vulnerable individuals, regardless of one’s personal relationships or professional success. The impact of Peck’s actions on those involved is evident, highlighting the need for continued awareness and prevention of sexual abuse in all industries.
