Former Mexican World Boxing Organization (WBO) world champion Moises Fuentes has died at the age of 37. This was announced on his Twitter (the social network is blocked in Russia) Mauricio Suleiman, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC).
“A warrior who fought to his last breath. Our condolences to his family and friends and our appreciation to his wife for her dedication and selflessness with indescribable love during this difficult year,” Suleiman wrote.
Fuentes was hospitalized last October after being knocked out in a duel with compatriot David Cuellar. The boxer had a blood clot in his brain, was operated on and put into a medically induced coma, but never recovered.
In total, Fuentes had 25 wins, seven losses and one draw in the professional ring. He was the WBO strawweight champion and interim super flyweight champion. The duel with Cuellar was the first for Fuentes after a three-year break.
