Former Boston Red Sox player Tim Wakefield has cancer.

It was revealed by a former teammate in a podcast – without his permission.

“Unfortunately, this information has been released to the public without their permission,” the Boston Red Sox wrote in a statement.

57-year-old Tim Wakefield, former pitcher in the Boston Red Sox, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. That was revealed by his former teammate Curt Schilling in his podcast, which New York Post reported on.

The problem? He did it without the family’s permission.

As if that wasn’t enough. He also shared that Wakefield’s wife is battling pancreatic cancer.

“Tim Wakefield is sick. He was recently diagnosed with a very serious and aggressive form of brain cancer,” Schilling said, among other things.

“I want Tim and Stacy to know that we are praying for them, that we are thinking of them,” he continued.

”Fuck you”

Schilling revealing his former teammate’s illness has not gone down well. He also admits that he was unsure if the family wanted to share the information.

On social media, he receives strong criticism from a former teammate’s wife.

“Fuck you Curt Schilling, you had no right!”, write Catherine Varitek, wife of former Red Sox player Jason Varitek.

Even the Boston Red Sox have commented on the events.

Won multiple World Series

“We are aware of statements regarding Tim and Stacy Wakefield’s health,” the Red Sox write and continue:

“Unfortunately, this information has been released to the public without their permission. Their health is a personal matter that they want to keep personal”.

Tim Wakefield, Curt Schilling and Jason Varitek played together on the Boston Red Sox and won two World Series titles (2004 and 2007) together.

Wakefield made his MLB debut in 1992 and during his 19-year career he won over 200 games, including 186 with the Red Sox. He retired in 2011.
