Roberts succumbed to a urinary tract infection in a hospital in Los Angeles, as her publicist Mike Pingel announced on Tuesday. US media erroneously reported on the death of the former “Bond girl” on Sunday evening (local time). At this point, however, she had not yet died, as Pingel had made clear on Monday.
On Monday evening (local time) Roberts then succumbed to the infection, which had spread to several organs and in their bloodstream, as Pingel told the AFP news agency. According to earlier statements by the publicist, she collapsed on December 24 while walking her dogs and was then taken to the hospital.
Roberts had played the lead female role in the 1985 Bond film “In the Face of Death”. She portrayed the geologist Stacey Sutton. It was the last film in the series in which Roger Moore played the role of the British secret agent James Bond.
Roberts had previously made her breakthrough as an actress with the US crime series “Charlie’s Angels”. She was also in the fantasy film “Beastmaster – The Liberator” (1982) and as the title character in “Sheena – Queen of the Jungle” (1984), a female version of the Tarzan jungle classic. In the late 90s and early 2000s, Roberts starred in the sitcom “The Wild Seventies”.
