Former Boeing Supplier Whistleblower Joshua Dean Dies After Exposing Defects in 737 MAX Manufacturing

Joshua Dean, a former quality inspector at Boeing supplier Spirit Aerosystems and one of the first whistleblowers to say Spirit management overlooked manufacturing defects on the Boeing 737 MAX, died Tuesday morning of a sudden illness spreading rapidly.

Joshua Dean lived in Wichita, Kansas, where the Spirit is located. He was 45 years old, in good health and leading a healthy lifestyle. “Died after two weeks in critical condition,” said his aunt Carol Parsons told the Seattle Times.

Spirit spokesman Joe Buccino released a statement: “Our thoughts are with Josh Dean’s family. This sudden loss is shocking news here and for his loved ones.”

Witness below lawfiled against Spirit by the company’s shareholders, and filed a complaint with the Federal Aviation Administration alleging “gross and egregious misconduct by senior management regarding the quality of the 737 product line. “

Spiorad Dean fired in April 2023. He filed a complaint with the Department of Labor, alleging that the termination of his contract was in retaliation for expressing concerns about aviation safety.

Dean was represented by a South Carolina law firm that also represented John Barnett, the other Boeing whistleblower. Barnett’s body was openly with a gunshot wound in his car in a hotel parking lot on March 9, the very day he was scheduled to testify in the case against his former employer, Boeing.

Before his death, the evidence said to his close family friend, if something happened to him, not to believe if it was announced that he had committed suicide. His words came true. The Charleston County Medical Examiner in South Carolina announced that 62-year-old John Barnett shot himself.

In recent months, technical problems with several Boeing aircraft have become more frequent. In January this year, part of the fuselage of the Boeing 737 Max broke off during flight. Polish President Andrzej Duda had to use a backup car after the president’s 737 malfunctioned while returning from the US.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also had to abandon a Boeing flight due to technical problems with the aircraft in early April and traveled by car from France to Belgium. This is not the first problem with Blinken’s plane: in January, during a flight from Davos, an oxygen leak was found in the state-owned Boeing 737, where Blinken had landed already with his guardian. The damage was beyond repair and the aircraft was declared unairworthy.
