The justice of Argentina through the Courts of Lomas de Zamora, province of Buenos Aires, sentenced this Tuesday morning to 5 years in prison the former forward of Boca Juniors, Benfica de Portugal and Lanús, among others, Junior Benítez, who was accused for attacks against the family of his ex-partner, Anabelia Ayala, who lost her life last December 2023 by committing suicide.
Causes of grief
The events that involved Benítez in crimes took place at different times between 2021 and 2023, the first of which occurred in January 2021, when the victim’s parents found the athlete in their daughter’s room with a firearm.
In the evidence presented in court, it emerged that the now convicted man destroyed the woman’s belongings, claiming that they were gifts from her ex-boyfriend and she should not have them. In addition, Benítez threatened the family members with a firearm when they asked him to calm down and subsequently burned all of the aforementioned objects at the door of the house.

A year later, when the relationship had already ended months before, Benítez violated a restriction on approaching Ayala’s family home, with the young woman’s father indicating in one of the hearings that the soccer player exploded the tires with a knife and before leaving , he again threatened to kill the entire family with a gun.
In statements to the media eltrece, Juan Ayala, expressed his discontent with the sentence, considering that his daughter committed suicide due to constant persecution and threats, a situation that generated a strong trauma that should have been punished with a maximum sentence: “I think they should have given her more years, imagine the pain I have as a father for having lost my daughter. I agree to appeal for more years, for justice for Anabelia and for the rest of the victims who suffer from this problem.”.
