Former BK Häcken Forward Alexander Søderlund Retires from Norwegian National Team Career

Former BK Häcken forward and Norwegian profile Alexander Søderlund, 36, has over the years represented clubs such as Rosenborg, Haugesund, Rizespor and Saint-Etienne, but has also made 32 A international matches with Norway.

Now the 36-year-old, who has played with Haugesund in recent years, is at the end of his career and announces that he is putting his national team career on the shelf.

Søderlund’s statement is a bit of a joke, as it was around six years ago that he made his last international match against Slovakia in mid-November 2017.

“We have a lot of promising forwards. That’s why I now choose to step aside, so future players get the opportunity. I hereby put the national team career on the shelf. Thank you for all the Norwegian national team. I’m betting that the new wine will take us to the championship,” he writes on X and adds:

“Just an extra note: Can’t stand the nagging and people being on me about coming back. The decision is made, and that’s it. Regardless, thanks for all the private messages I’ve been getting. It this is not about the football career. Only the national team”.

As you know, Norway has a lot of quality forwards, such as Erling Braut Haaland and Alexander Sørloth, while Oscar Bobb comes from below.

This year, Søderlund was noted for two goals and two assists in 16 games in the Norwegian top league. With Häcken, he accounted for eight goals and three assists in 27 appearances.
