Óscar Benítez was arrested on Friday in Argentina, accused of domestic violence with coercion and the use of firearms.
The 30-year-old Argentine striker, formerly of Benfica and Sp. Braga (a club for which he was loaned by the reds), was detained by order of the judge after a complaint from his ex-father-in-law and his ex-brother-in-law, reports the press of that country.
These relatives denounced the acts of violence that the ex-girlfriend suffered, in addition to other threats that the player made against them.
As early as January 2022, Benítez had also been arrested for gender violence. At the time, the player was denounced by the father of his then partner for bodily harm, trespassing, threats and resistance to authority, as well as for having attacked police officers when they wanted to identify him.
Benítez, who among other clubs has already represented Boca Juniors, on loan from Benfica, never played a game for the reds, who ceded him to Sp. Braga in 2016/17, having played five games for the Minho team.
