Last month, it was announced that Megadeth had fired the bassist after footage leaked of a sexual video call between the musician and the fan. Soon, stories circulated that Ellefson had “groomed” an underage lady, a form of digital child lure. The woman later turned out to be 19 years old and said in a statement that she herself took the initiative and that the sexual acts were not against her will. “Nothing inappropriate has ever happened before. It was all by mutual consent. I am not a victim and I was not groomed. I was just naive enough to record it and share the footage with a friend without his permission.”
The bassist has now admitted to police that four to five racy video calls took place. The two got to know each other after a concert in the Netherlands and kept in touch. At the beginning of last year they saw each other again in a Dutch hotel, but according to Ellefson they did not have any physical sexual contact. Last summer they got in touch digitally and filmed themselves several times while masturbating. The last time was in February this year.

While Megadeth wasn’t exactly sure what had happened at the time of the layoff, the band thought it was enough to fire the bassist. As far as is known, a replacement for Ellefson has not yet been found.
