José Paulo Bezerra Maciel Junior, better known as Paulinhoannounced his retirement from professional football at 36 years old. The Brazilian midfielder, known for his versatility and ability to reach the rival area, decided to hang up his boots after end his contract with Corinthians, club where he rose to fame. The footballer himself announced this in an emotional video on his Instagram account.
Paulinho started his career in 2006 with the Audax of Brazilbut his most notable stage was in the Corinthianswith whom he won important titles and projected himself into European football. After his successful time at Tottenham Hotspur, FC Barcelona bet on him in 2017, bringing him from China by paying 40 million euros for his transfer.
Despite arriving without preseason, He quickly became part of the Catalan team and in his first year he made his mark with important goals.including a double against the Corunna Sports and his Key participation in a classic against Real MadridIn his first and only season as a Barça player, Paulinho helped the team win the League and the King’s Cupplaying a total of 49 matches and scoring 9 goals.
Throughout his career, Paulinho was also International with the Brazilian national team, participating in 56 matches and scoring 13 goals. He represented his country in two World Cups (2014 and 2018)and was part of the team that won the Confederations Cup in 2013.
His career in China, where he played with the Guangzhou Evergrande, included multiple league titles and international competitions. After passing through Asia, He returned to Corinthians to close his career at the club that catapulted him to stardom.
