Former Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneisel has said she would rather spend her time in the Russian village of Petrushevo than on a beach in the Maldives or the Seychelles. She said this in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS, Austrian media reported today.
The village where Kneisel has been vacationing for several weeks is located in Russia’s Ryazan region.
The former Austrian diplomat liked life in Petrushevo. She specifies in the interview with the Russian agency that the house she lived in there is not her permanent address.
In another interview she gave a few days ago to a local Russian news site, Austrian media also reported, Kneisel said the house was rented by French woman Irene Comeau, who worked in Moscow and bought the property in the mid-1990s. century. The purpose of the former Austrian foreign minister’s summer stay in the now internationally famous small village is to learn Russian and finish her book on the current situation in Europe, which should be published in October or November this year.
Kneisel told the local journalist that he did not know how long he would stay in the Russian village. She adds that she had to leave Austria and settled in France, where she also had no right to work, but when she was refused to open a bank account, she was terrified. “I had to escape from Europe, I was not accepted anywhere,” says the former first diplomat of Austria.
Kneisel currently heads the Geopolitical Observatory on Russia’s Key Themes at Saint Petersburg University. Asked by a local journalist about her wedding in 2018, where Russian President Vladimir Putin was a guest, she replies that there are many more events in her life than this marriage ceremony, which has already been broken, but the whole world is asking her about this. Kneisel specifies that her last meeting with Putin was in 2019.
