Former athlete Roelf B. and his childhood friend Gert-Jan N. were sentenced to five years in prison on Monday for dealing drugs at the Hungarian music festival Sziget. This has been decided by the court in the capital Budapest.
B. was arrested together with N. after the police found price lists among the visitors. Large amounts of drugs were found in the men’s tent and car, including 2,700 ecstasy pills.
The two have accepted a criminal proposal from the Hungarian Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM). Eight years had been proposed to B. and N. would have been ten years if it were up to the Public Prosecution Service.
However, the punishment of the court is even lower. It is possible that the Public Prosecution Service will still appeal against this decision, explains B.’s lawyer Rachel Imamkhan. Both B. and N. again regretted the court on Monday.
As soon as the sentence is final, which is the case when both the judiciary and the suspects can no longer appeal, the two can request to serve their remaining sentence in the Netherlands.
