Former Athlete Reveals Unrecognized Stroke and Lack of Medical Care in Rhythmic Gymnastics

According to the former athlete, she did not understand what happened to her and did not receive the necessary medical care.

“When I studied with my first coach, she had a specific approach to work. I was number one, so there was a lot of pressure on me. Our sport is quite traumatic, there are no healthy people. I suffered most of my injuries due to the trainer’s unprofessional method; I was overtrained. In the totality of everything that happened, I had a stroke, but I only found out about it at the age of 18, when I was studying in rehabilitation.

Initially, I didn’t even notice that I was having a stroke. This happened when I was 14 years old. I just returned home after another difficult workout and passed out. Half an hour later I woke up and realized that I could not move or speak. This lasted about 40 minutes, then speech began to return. The next day I told the coach about this, unfortunately, she was not able to recognize that it was a stroke. Therefore, I was not given proper help and treatment. During training I was told not to do jumping. But there was no rest or rehabilitation. Sometimes I still have problems with speech because of this,” quotes words Torosyan Sport24.

Torosyan is a master of sports of the Russian Federation in rhythmic gymnastics, champion of Moscow, winner of international and all-Russian competitions.
