Former Arsenal player arrested for trafficking 700,000 euros of cannabis – Diario La Página – 2024-09-20 09:02:54

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, a footballer for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Second Division, was arrested for trafficking two suitcases containing 60 kilos of cannabis valued at 600,000 pounds (714,000 euros).

The 33-year-old striker has been charged with drug trafficking and will appear before Carlisle Magistrates Court on Thursday.

On 2 September, the National Crime Agency (NCA) arrested two women travelling to Stansted from Bangkok with two suitcases containing 60 kilos of cannabis.

Emmanuel-Thomas, who was a youth player and captain of Arsenal’s youth team and played for Livingston, Aberdeen, Ipswich Town, Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers, has been arrested in connection with the case. The footballer also played for PTT Rayong in the Thai league.

The NCA warned travellers from Thailand, Canada and the US this year that they could face prison sentences if they were found to be trafficking cannabis. The agency said it had seized three times as much cannabis so far this year as in 2023.

The maximum penalty for trafficking cannabis in the UK is 14 years in prison.
