As Apple prepares to roll out iOS 18 in the coming weeks, statements from a former employee of the Cupertino firm are casting doubt on the need to update older smartphones.

In it, he explains that he understands the excitement of owners of an older iPhone at the idea of accessing new features, but He also recommends that they think twice before updating to iOS 18.
“If you have an older device and you really want to take advantage of the latest features, that’s cool. But you’re going to slow down your phone. Maybe not immediately, but over time. These updates, they’re not designed for older iPhones.”he explains.
Tyler Morgan goes on to explain that, in his opinion, It would be better to avoid iOS 18 with iPhone XR/XS, as these models are too old for the system to work properly. On the iPhone 11, 12 and 13, he also believes that the experience will clearly not be optimal.
