Le designer Jony Ive, who left Apple five years ago to create his own company (LoveFrom), confirmed to New York Times that he was currently collaborating with OpenAI (the creators of ChatGPT) on a new, secret product.
According to the American daily, which recently published a profile of the designer, Jony Ive is accompanied by two other former Apple designers on this project, namely Tang Tan and Evans Hankey. Tang Tan has notably supervised the evolution of the design of the iPhone and the Apple Watch in recent years.
In total, 10 people are said to have joined the team, which is based in San Francisco. But their product that Ive is working on remains a mystery. The New York Times simply describes the project as “a product that uses AI to create a less socially disruptive computing experience than the iPhone.” Quite a program.
If it comes to fruition, the project would be the most significant one signed LoveFrom (and Jony Ive) since his years at Apple. Indeed, since his departure, the designer has certainly unveiled small projects (a clown nose for an association; a jacket for the Moncler brand; or even a $60,000 vinyl turntable); but nothing as striking as some Apple products.
