Former Apple chief designer Jony Ive is developing a new AI hardware product with OpenAI that will one day compete with the iPhone. Ive confirmed a corresponding rumor, but did not reveal any details about the project.
A year ago, there were first rumors about a meeting between Sam Altman and the former chief designer of Apple, Jony Ive. Now Ive confirmed to the New York Times that he is working with OpenAI on a new AI device. However, there are no further details about the potential successor to the iPhone, reports “Heise“.
Ive left Apple five years ago and founded his own design company, Lovefrom, in San Francisco. It has not yet been revealed what the company makes, other than a Moncler jacket with magnetic buttons that will be released in the fall for $2,000. Lovefrom’s clients also include Ferrari and Airbnb, the company said. Now Lovefrom is to design an AI product that will be less “socially disruptive” than the iPhone, but will use AI to create a computing experience.
Ive made the following statement about the product to the New York Times: He would not judge the new device by its return on investment, as that would be beside the point. One should get used to the uncertainty.
