Former Ankaragucu Club President Suspended for Life After Assaulting Referee: Turkish Football Federation

(CNN) – The Turkish Football Federation announced on Thursday that Faruk Koca, the former president of Ankaragucu Club, has been suspended from playing football for life after he assaulted a referee.

Koca ran to the field and punched referee Halil Umut Miller in the face after the Ankaragucu and Rizespor teams tied, during the match held on Monday. The referee was taken to the hospital after the assault and was released on Wednesday.

Miller said that Kuka punched him in the face under his left eye, and after he fell to the ground, two others kicked him, according to the Turkish Anatolia news agency.
He added: “Farouk Koka told me and the other officials, ‘I will eliminate you, I will kill you.'”

Coca was punished with a ban for 5 years, but because the punishment exceeds 3 years, it will be a lifetime ban, and his club Ankara Cucu will also play 5 matches at home without an audience, with a fine of 2 million Turkish liras (about 69 thousand dollars) being imposed.
