Gangtok: The Meghalaya government has denied permission to use the stadium for the Prime Minister’s rally. The Prime Minister’s rally is to be held at Tura in the West Garo Hills on Friday. The BJP has alleged that permission was denied to the program without citing any specific reasons. The NPP and the BJP, who ruled in alliance last time, are facing the election alone this time. The BJP accused Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s move to stop the BJP wave.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister candidate of the Congress in Meghalaya, Vincent Pala, rejected the criticism that senior Congress leaders are not coming to the election campaign. Vincent Pala told Asianet News that Rahul Gandhi will come to Meghalaya to campaign next week and the Congress will form the government by winning 33 seats in the state.
Absence of senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi in the north-eastern states where elections were held was discussed. The BJP also mocked that Rahul Gandhi is staying away because he is afraid of having to take responsibility for the defeat. In 2018, the Congress, which won 22 seats, could not form the government despite being the single largest party. Within four years, all the Congress MLAs switched to the BJP alliance. Vincent H. Pala’s explanation is that this cannot be seen as a problem of the Congress and that they are looking for personal gain. Rahul Gandhi’s failure to campaign in the Tripura elections held after the Bharat Jodo Yatra was a big discussion. Rahul will arrive in Meghalaya on Thursday when top BJP leaders including Amit Usha and JP Nadda are using Rahul Gandhi’s absence as a campaign weapon.
