Former Alcoa: Alu Ibérica workers in A Coruña demand support given their “extremely serious” employment situation | Radio Coruña

The works council of Alu Iberica, the old one Alcoa, qualifies as “extremely serious” the situation in which the A Grela plants, in A Coruña, are found, after Risk Groups, aspiring to become the majority owner, has not been able to prove his solvency. The mayor of A Coruña, Ines Rey, has demanded this morning the government to investigate the entire sale process.

They denounce once again that they do not know if the new owner is going to fulfill the industrial project and the maintenance of the jobs committed to Parter Capital, the fund that bought the plant from Alcoa and now wants to sell it to Grupo Riesgo.

The workers demand institutional support that, they say, they lack at the moment, both from the Xunta and from the A Coruña Council.

The mayor has called this morning to the government to investigate the sale using “all the means at its disposal” to guarantee the continuity of this industry in the city.

In Asturias the same situation occurs at the Alu Ibérica plant in Avilés. There the president of the Principality has assured that if the new buyer does not comply with the security conditions of the project, he will demand from the Ministry of Industry the reversal of the sale and the search for new investors.
