Former Adviser Admits Responsibility for Creating Illusion of Quick Victory over Russia in Ukraine

Former adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Alexei Arestovich, said that he created for Ukrainians the “illusion” of a quick victory over Russia and admitted his responsibility for this. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

“A significant share of responsibility for the faith of an ordinary citizen in our quick and beautiful victory lies with me personally. I created an illusion at that time so that we would survive. Today I am destroying it so that we can survive,” he wrote.

He clarified that Ukraine, with its current policy, in six months or a year may be left without a chance to join NATO. “We will only be talking about some “… guarantees without entry,” Arestovich believes.

In his opinion, this will be followed by “another Minsk agreement,” but with a different name. He also rejected accusations that he was offering to “swap” alliance membership in the territory.

On November 1, the former adviser presented his political program of 14 points, which relate to the economy, military sphere, domestic and foreign policy, etc. In particular, Arestovich proposed introducing a state of emergency in several areas at once, moving to “strategic defense” (namely change personnel policy, save more lives and train more specialists), change the mobilization system, etc., as well as carry out tax, educational, judicial, pension reforms, etc.

Regarding the North Atlantic Alliance, the program states that the bloc should be required to approve Ukraine’s membership with the condition that all territorial issues will be resolved only “politically.”

Arestovich does not hide his presidential ambitions. In one of his posts, he wrote that the “one hundred percent way” to translate him into communicating in Ukrainian is to “elect him as president.” Elections in the country, in accordance with the Constitution, should be held on March 31 next year. But they may be postponed, since martial law has been introduced in Ukraine. Vladimir Zelensky previously allowed elections to be held subject to amendments to legislation and financial support from the West.
