A truly left-wing cabinet is impossible in my opinion. The left will have to govern with a few middle parties. Timmermans has also made statements in that direction. I’m surprised that I hardly hear anyone on Joop talking about Timmermans + Omtzigt. I myself have previously suggested this as a possibility, rather as a necessity. Omtzigt is the Van Agt of the past: We don’t bend to the left and we don’t bend to the right. But that implies that he could also bend to the left. If not, then certainly no ‘left/center cabinet. If so, then more small parties will have to be found, Volt, D66, CU, PvdD, and yes… maybe even BBB. Oops, that last one is going to be a really tricky one. A lot of water will have to be added and water will have to flow through the Rhine before that becomes a reality. But anything is better than another cabinet with the VVD. I believe Timmermans is capable of creating such a left/center cabinet.
