Forty hockey players are trying to carve out a position with the Forestiers d’Amos M18 AAA

HOCKEY M18 AAA – After a memorable spring, the Forestiers d’Amos are already back to work preparing for the 2023-2024 campaign. A training camp that brings optimism and motivation created by the last elimination course of the Abitibi team.

Launched on Tuesday, the preseason component comes after a pre-camp where nearly 75 players attended, a number rarely reached in recent years. Following the elimination of the Amossois against the Gauls of Saint-Hyacinthe, the head coach, Shawn Lanoue, had launched a regional rallying call so that the maximum number of talents would be exposed. A feeling also accentuated by the great end to the season of the Citadelles de Rouyn-Noranda M17 AAA, which amassed the bronze medal at the last Chevrolet Cup.

“I think all the guys here have had success at the end of the season. The players were eager and I can already feel it in the energy of the group. There are already some affinities and links that are being created. Group cohesion is beautiful,” says Shawn Lanoue.

“The sense of belonging is good. Whether with the Citadels or the Foresters, everyone wants to evolve for one or the other. It’s not perfect, and no one is, but we’re still working on it.”

Transmitters of knowledge

While waiting to know the final line-up on August 27, the Forestiers will be entitled to possible returns from last year’s veterans to guide those who knock on the door. Isaac Paré, Sheldon Rankin and Hemrick Carbonneau are among those who will try to crack a QMJHL roster in the coming weeks.

In total, 13 hockey players invited to the camp were drafted by a formation of the Cecchini circuit, including forward Sasha McGuire, who played in the M18 A, with the Appolos Rouge de Val-d’Or, last winter. In the event of a return to the M18 AAA, they will certainly be a vector of resources and experience.

“Often these players have played together for a long time. I take the example of Mathias Bourque. He started the year with the Citadelles, but he’s been playing since the pee-wee category with the guys who are at camp, and even some who are a year younger. This is partly related to the format of the structure. When they arrive here, they have good skills, ”says the Foresters instructor.

The Amossois will begin their preparatory calendar this weekend with a double against the Vikings of Saint-Eustache, in Ferme-Neuve. The regular campaign will kick off on September 8 against the Lac-Saint-Louis Lions.
