NEW JERSEY — New Jersey firefighters were hit even harder Friday when another wildfire broke out in the state’s extremely dry conditions.
At least four wildfires were burning in the state, stretching from the Pinelands in the central and western parts of the state to the New York City suburbs.
The latest fire broke out along the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Englewood Cliffs in Bergen County, across the Hudson River from New York.
The fire is burning in the Palisades Interstate Parkway area in Bergen County, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The fire is 30 percent contained and is 19 acres in size, the fire service reports. No structures are threatened and no evacuations have been made.
Telemundo 47 flew over the fire and watched as a New Jersey Forest Fire Service helicopter dropped 350 gallons of water at a time on the fire.
It was smaller than the other three burning in New Jersey, each of which had burned less than a square mile as of Thursday night. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service had not released any updates on those fires as of Friday morning.
Conditions were even more dangerous Friday than the day before, and the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning predicting gusty winds and low humidity that could help the fires spread quickly.
New Jersey has not received measurable precipitation in more than a month, the weather service said, setting a new record.
