Forest Fires Erupt in Turkish Aegean: Evacuations Underway

Two large forest fires broke out today in the Turkish Aegean district of Izmir, state TV TRT-Haber reports.

One fire is raging in the resort town of Aliaga, where people are currently being evacuated from their villas. People were evacuated by land and sea. Two villas have already burned down, said the representative of the local authorities, Zekeria Guney.

So far, there is no information about any injured citizens in the fire.

Guney urged people to follow the instructions of evacuation officials.

Six helicopters and four firefighting planes, as well as many fire trucks, are involved in the efforts to extinguish the flames, BTA reported.

A forest fire is also raging in the city of Menderes (Izmir County). Five helicopters and three firefighting planes and many fire trucks are involved in the firefighting efforts.
