Forest fires are ravaging Turkish resorts

Dozens of villages have been evacuated in tourist areas in southern Turkey, where forest fires are raging on the fifth day and claiming more and more lives.

In Turkey, two more deaths were reported on Sunday in connection with the forest fires in the southern province of Antalya. Thus, the fires have so far claimed eight lives, seven of them in Antalya, which together with Mugla province is hardest hit.

On Saturday night, several villages in Bodrum, a popular holiday destination on the Aegean Sea, were evacuated, according to Mayor Ahmet Aras.

Several have been evacuated by boat, and the Coast Guard’s ships are ready in case a major evacuation becomes necessary.

Water cannons, which are otherwise used during riots, are deployed in the fire brigade in Bodrum.
