One of the forest fires in central Greece reached the Air Force ammunition depot on Thursday, causing powerful explosions.

The explosions could be heard several kilometers away, however, sources in the government claim that people managed to evacuate in time and there were no casualties.

The ammunition depot is located approximately four kilometers from Neaan Hill airfield, where three squadrons of F-16 fighters are stationed.

The blast waves broke the windows of buildings in the nearby area.

Although, according to eyewitnesses, the explosions stopped about an hour ago, fearing that they might start again, firefighters are not approaching the scene yet.

Meanwhile, the tourists, who are mostly Greek, have sought refuge on the beach of Neaanhiala.
