The large forest fire on the French coast more than 50 kilometers southwest of Bordeaux is finally under control, according to the fire service. The fire raged for 11 days near the Dune du Pilat beach.
Thousands of campers have been evacuated in recent days because of the fires. Most campsites in the tourist area have been completely destroyed by fire.
The thousands of people who live in the vicinity of the burning forest and had to leave because of the fire, have been allowed to return to their homes.
Another major wildfire in the stricken department of Gironde, about 30 kilometers south of Bordeaux, is no longer spreading, but is not officially under control yet. Gironde has lost 21,000 hectares of forest due to the fires.
