Crews from the fire service and the Civil Defense have worked through the night to extinguish the forest and terrain fire in Samnanger, but still do not have control.
– We have covered the flanks and are holding the guard. But there is an enormous heat in the earth. It takes little for it to flare up again. It’s simmering all the time, says guard commander Helge Lund Bergens Tidende.
Crews from the Civil Defense and the fire service have been working since Wednesday afternoon to get control of the fire at Rolvsvågen in Samnanger in Midhordland. A fire helicopter was also deployed, but it returned to Flesland around midnight.
Work was still ongoing on Thursday morning. The fire flaps with open flames all around.
The fire service estimated on Wednesday afternoon that 90-100 properties had burned, but the area had increased during the evening.
– The area is somewhat larger now. The terrain is dry, but fortunately not very windy. Then we would have had a completely different scenario, said emergency manager Leif Erik Gjesdal in the Bergen fire service at 18:00.
