mTwo sites in Perambra region are being considered in Kozhikode district for the Tiger Safari Park that the Forest Department is planning to open in Labar. 114 hectares of land in Pannikotur Reserve Forest and a portion of Perampra Estate under Chakkittapara Panchayat are being considered. A high-level meeting of the forest department decided to open a park in Kozhikode and Kannur districts. In Kannur, land adjacent to Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is under consideration.

The forest department has formed an eight-member committee under the leadership of Chief Wild Warden Gangasingh to find the place. The Committee will soon inspect the places under consideration. In the meeting, Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran had given instructions. So things like inspection will be completed soon.

An area of 114 hectares is considered in the Pannikotur Reserve Forest which is not included in the Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary. Perampra Estate has been leased out by the Forest Department to the Plantation Department. It is also necessary to check whether there are any technical difficulties in releasing the land here. At least 60 acres of land will be required for the project. The park will be modeled after the lion park adjacent to Neyyar Dam in Thiruvananthapuram. Tourists can see tigers by traveling in a vehicle.

As part of the Kotur elephant rehabilitation center project in Thiruvananthapuram, the minister has also suggested to consider setting up a satellite center to protect wild elephants rehabilitated from the Malabar region. It is believed that the Safari Park and the Satellite Center will be an asset to the tourism sector in Malabar.

There are currently no such parks in the northern districts. If Peruvannamoozhi and Kakkayam dams are developed as a tourism circuit, it will also boost the tourism sector of the district. Meanwhile, concern has also arisen in the Perambra region over the project. Farmers’ organizations raise doubts that the coming of the park will lead to traffic restrictions in the area in the future.

Meeting at 30 to study the project

A meeting will be held at Chakkittapara on 30th under the leadership of the Forest Department and Chakkittapara Panchayat to study the matters related to the Tiger Safari Park that the Forest Department intends to implement. The meeting will be held with the participation of people’s representatives, political party representatives and forest department officials.

Chakkittapara Panchayat President K. Sunil has spoken to Kozhikode DFO about this. A letter will also be sent the next day asking for a meeting. President K. will clarify the position of the panchayat on the project after knowing the details about it. Sunil said.

Last day, Forest Minister A.K. A high-level meeting under the leadership of Saseendran decided to establish a Tiger Safari Park in the Malabar region.
