Foreigners who fought on the side of Ukraine and were captured by Russia were taken to Saudi Arabia

Among those released are two Americans, five British and one each from Sweden, Morocco and Croatia.

On Wednesday they arrived in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, by plane. The “Al Arabia” television channel reports that they were released through the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, who was in direct contact with both the Kremlin and the Ukrainian leadership.

A Saudi statement stated that they had arrived in the kingdom from Russia and that the Saudi authorities were “working for their return to their respective countries”.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss said the release of British citizens was “very welcome news that puts an end to months of uncertainty and suffering for them and their families.”

Trasa said they were “held captive by Russian-backed militias in eastern Ukraine” and thanked both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Saudi Arabia for helping to free them.

Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Linde tweeted that the Swedish citizen detained in Donetsk “is now free and healthy”. You also thanked Ukraine and Saudi Arabia.
