The foreign trade unit values index fell in the first quarter. On import, it fell 1.4% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, says the HCP. This decrease is mainly due to the decrease in unit values of semi-finished products (-4.8%), energy and lubricants (-6.3%), raw products of mineral origin (-44.6%) and food, beverages and tobacco (-1.6%). On the other hand, the indices of average values of finished industrial equipment products, finished consumer products and finished agricultural equipment products increased by 5.5, 2.4 and 2% respectively, thus mitigating the fall in overall import index.
In terms of exports, the unit values index fell by 3.7% over the same period. This decrease is mainly explained by the decrease in unit values of semi-finished products (-15.5%), raw products of mineral origin (-9.5%), finished consumer products (-0.4% ) and finished industrial equipment products (-0.2%). On the other hand, this index increased in food, drinks and tobacco (+ 0.7%) and raw products of animal and vegetable origin (+ 5.7%).
