The Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday threatening to sue anyone who posts comments on its official page that contain insults, defamation or false news.
The ministry said its officials and staff are targeted with defamatory comments posted on suspicious and malicious pages and profiles, claiming that state symbols are also targeted.
The department stressed that it will take all legal measures to reveal the identity of the owners of the electronic addresses concerned in order to prosecute them, also warning Internet users who react on its digital media.
It should be recalled that the Ministries of Justice, Interior and Communication Technologies announced, on Wednesday August 23, 2023, that legal proceedings have been initiated to reveal the identity of the owners, users of pages, accounts and groups on social networks “that exploit these platforms to produce, promote, disseminate, transmit, or prepare false news, statements, rumors, or false information for the purpose of defaming, disparaging, attacking the rights of others, to undermine public security and social order, as well as to harm the interests of the Tunisian State and to seek to tarnish its symbols”.
This announcement follows the meeting held the same day with the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, where cybercrime and the need to put an end to excesses on social networks were discussed.
