Foreign Ministry: Russia is considering the appointment of a new ambassador to Japan

Russia is working on the appointment of a new ambassador to Tokyo, said Andrei Rudenko, deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry. According to him, there is already a candidate for this post.

“We are working on it,” said the Deputy Minister TASS. Who can be appointed ambassador, he did not specify.

In March 2022, against the background of the imposition of sanctions by Japan, Russia refused to negotiate a peace treaty, and also stopped visa-free trips of the Japanese to the Kuriles. In November, President Vladimir Putin relieved Mikhail Galuzin of Russia’s ambassador to Japan and appointed him to the post of deputy foreign minister. The Japanese authorities do not intend to abolish the post of Minister for the Development of Economic Relations with Russia.
