Foreign Minister Yván Gil: “The meeting between Brian A. Nichols and Dinorah Figuera is laughable and childish”

The Government of Venezuela mocked a meeting between the United States Department of State and former congresswoman Dinorah Figuerawho leads a group of former opposition parliamentarians elected in 2015 who maintain a sort of “Legislative” parallel, in rejection of the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2020, with an official majority.

In a mocking tone, the foreign minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, wished, through Twitter, “greatest success to the US State Department in building relations with Narnia”as the ruling party usually refers to this sector of the opposition, until last December led by Juan Guaidó, who was recognized by the US as “Acting President” from Venezuela.

In Gil’s opinion, this recent “laughable find” confirms the «childish US endeavor to promote a failed political and diplomatic fantasy.”

With this message on the social network, the minister responded to a publication by the US Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nicholswho reported the meeting with the representative of the “last democratically elected institution in Venezuela.”

“We continue to support her and the efforts of the National Assembly to return to Venezuela the democracy that its people deserve”expressed the North American official on his Twitter account, despite the fact that this parallel entity does not have real power or attributions.

The State Department affirmed, last month, that it continues to recognize the National Assembly elected in 2015 with an opposition majority -from which the majority of the anti-Chavistas themselves distanced themselves-, because it considers that it is “the last democratically elected institution left in Venezuela.”
