PARIS, KOMPAS.com – President Jokowi’s action to stay in the area The nation’s capital (IKN) Archipelago by using a tent is also reported foreign media.
One of them did, namely France Media Agency (AFP), an international news agency headquartered in Paris, France.
On Tuesday (15/3/2022), AFP published an article entitled “Indonesia’s president takes camping trip to site of new capital”.
In the article, AFP not only reviewing Jokowi’s activities camping in the middle of the forest, but also mentioning the implementation of the Kendi Nusantara event, including the environmental issues behind the IKN transfer program to East Kalimantan.
For example, AFP wrote, that Indonesia was preparing to move its capital city from the overcrowded Jakarta, to the archipelago.
The agenda is said to be included in a mega-project that has come under fire from environmentalists who warn that it could damage ecosystems in the region.
Indonesia’s new capital will cover about 56,180 hectares (216 sq mi) in the eastern part of the island of Borneo, which Malaysia and Brunei share.
However, it said the project was facing hurdles with concerns over the environmental impact exacerbated by the loss of investor SoftBank Group this week, who withdrew from the project without explanation.

President Jokowi has announced plans to move the nation’s capital in 2019, citing rising sea levels and severe congestion on the densely populated island of Java.
The move is due to begin in 2024, but the President has warned that the project could take more than a decade to complete.
AFP reported, Jokowi and governors from all over the country inaugurated the IKN site on Monday (14/3/2022), with a ceremony, in which they brought land and water from their respective regions and mixed them to symbolize the unity of the country.
Indonesia is known to be not the first country in Southeast Asia to relocate an overpopulated capital city.
Malaysia and Myanmar had already moved their administrative centers in the 2000s.
Media France24 from France also reported on President Jokowi’s agenda for camping in the IKN area on their website.
France24 was originally a television and radio station that appeared in 2006. They then provided news on the internet.
