A new category is advancing in this strange phase in which Italy is surrounded by countries like Austria and Germany on its knees due to Covid, infections start to increase again, inflation and the cost of raw materials launch a left shadow on our economy and the Italian regions one after the other are changing color. It is the category of the irresponsible that counts among its ranks those who sound alarms about our present or near future but, at the same time, behave as if we were back to normal. Needless to say, it’s a worse category than No-Vax or No-Pass: those are now just jokers, crazy people who have found a way to perform in public, turning the vaccine into an ideological clash. Pure psychoanalysis stuff. Different discourse concerns those unions, more precisely the CGIL and the UIL since the CISL has not joined, which have called a general strike just when the country has a mad need to work to recover.
Here psychoanalysis has nothing to do with it, if anything, the old proverb about those who preach good and scratch badly helps more. Now it’s not like this year’s budget law is the best in the world. Indeed, we have also written it in this newspaper. But from here to choose forms of struggle that block the production system that has been stopped for Covid for a year, there is some. Indeed, it is an “irresponsible” choice that has other purposes, as the government has rightly stigmatized and, even, a piece of the left.
We would not like, however, here is the point, that in a few weeks the executive will provide another example of textbook imprudence. On December 31, in fact, the state of emergency will expire, the unknowns on the evolution of the pandemic looking at the map of Europe which, apart from Italy, is a red sea for infections, are what they are and, of course, they also reflect on our economy: not extending it by three to six months would send out a message that would end up confusing the public, forced in these days to withdraw the mask from the drawer and to use a severe tool such as the super green pass.
In short, it would be an incomprehensible choice. And furthermore, relevant data, how could the government reconcile an unprecedented choice such as that of depriving the No Vax of a social life to face the fourth wave, without the legal coverage of the state of emergency? And the contradictions, you can be sure, would not end here. Unless such a decision serves to heal another contradiction – perhaps even more striking – that could arise in a month, that of a Premier who decides to leave Palazzo Chigi to go up to the Quirinale while the state is still proclaimed in the country emergency.
An eventuality that, net of any hypocrisy, would be really difficult to explain.
