Foreign Biathletes Squabble at World Championships in Absence of Russians

Foreign biathletes started a squabble at the World Championships in the absence of the Russians.

Sanctions against Russian athletes have practically destroyed world skiing. Apparently, biathlon will be next in line for execution. The Norwegian advantage becomes so overwhelming that the only entertainment is the bickering in the commentary after the races.

At the World Championships in Nove Mesto, the main hater of Russia in biathlon, Sebastian Samuelsson, had a verbal altercation with the three-time Olympic champion from Norway, in which Tarja Boe put the presumptuous upstart in his place.

“You’re always talking nonsense”

The world championship in the Czech Republic was generally in jeopardy. The fact is that the weather in Nove Mesto and the surrounding area was catastrophic for winter sports – heavy rains and plus 15 degrees. It got to the point where biathletes used roller skates on the track instead of skis. However, the organizers were still able to save the World Championship and held the races. True, interest in them, especially in the male part, was mainly among Norwegian fans.

In the sprint, the first three places were taken by representatives of this particular country – Sturla Lægreid, Johannes Boe and Vetle-Sjastad Christiansen. In the pursuit race, the Norwegian dominance became even more threatening – they took all the first five places! And there were six of them in the top 8; only two Swedes, Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluoma, diluted the company. However, there is no point in talking about Norway’s victories for the hundredth time.

What happened after the pursuit was much more fun. Immediately after the finish, the elder Be, who took fifth place, interrupted the conversation between Samuelsson, who finished sixth, and reporters in the mixed zone. The Swedish biathlete explained to reporters why he did not fully fight for fifth position with the Norwegian. This is how the dialogue turned out.

— If at the finish line we were fighting for victory and gold at the World Championship, I would 100% be ahead of Tarjei. In that situation, I would have had increased motivation,” VG quotes Samuelsson.

– You constantly talk about different nonsense. Did you believe it? — Be answered, directing his phrase to the Swede and the journalists.

Samuelsson continued the discussion and tried to once again make it clear why Tarjei was so harsh on the track. And he said that he simply did not take the Swedish national team seriously, which is actually very good. The elder Be couldn’t resist a sarcastic answer either.

“Seb always talks a lot and thinks he’s always right.” I beat him to the finish line, so that’s all he talks about. Typical Seb,” Be concluded.

Previously, the Russians interfered. And now who?

Then both said that all this happened mostly in a joking manner and no one held grudges against each other. Supposedly the usual jokes after the finish. However, knowing the morals of both biathletes, it is quite possible to assume that their altercation was serious. Perhaps, without the Russians, they simply have nowhere to throw out their anger and toxicity, so they began to bite each other.

The same Samuelsson, it seems, even came to the World Cup stages to speak out against the Russian team and specifically Alexander Loginov. After the 2019 World Championships, Sebastian said that he would like the Russian not to compete at all.

“I would really like this athlete not to be here.” He doesn’t belong here. The rules could be stricter for people like him. If you are caught using EPO, you should be disqualified,” Dagbladet quotes Samuelsson as saying.

Tarjei Be also did not choose his expressions when criticizing Loginov. He was especially “bombed” after the 2020 World Championships, when Sasha won gold in the sprint, and the Norwegian remained fourth without a medal. In his book, the elder Be described those events as follows.

— It was a very difficult race, so overall I was satisfied with the bronze. But then an athlete appeared who did not deserve to take to the track here. This scammer, Alexander Loginov, won gold. And because of him, I remained fourth. When he crossed the finish line, everything went dark in my eyes,” Tarjei wrote.

Four years have passed. Loginov calmly performs at the Spartakiad and the Russian Cup and no longer interferes with poor Be. Only he still cannot get into the top three. Apparently, the ghost of Russian biathlon still hovers on the slopes of Nove Mesto.
