The ambassadors of the United States, Albania, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Israel, Japan and the United Kingdom join their EU counterparts, who condemn threats of violence against the Council of Ministers and the US Ambassador by a Bulgarian MP.
The ambassadors say such threats cannot be justified and stand with the clear conviction that hate speech cannot have a place in our societies, the US embassy said in a statement.
The joint statement is on the occasion of the publication of the Vazrazhdane MP Elena Guncheva from March 18. In it, Guncheva wrote that Russia has weapons that “can accurately hit the Council of Ministers” if the Bulgarian government decides to send military aid to Ukraine.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Parliament Nikola Minchev described the MP’s statements as “unworthy and inadmissible” and pointed out that according to Art. 29 of the Vienna Convention “all deputies owe respect to senior state officials as well as to diplomats”.
