Foreign Affairs “surprised” by the conviction of Jean-Jacques Wondo

The Foreign Affairs of the FPS said that it was “surprised” by the conviction of Jean-Jacques Wondo “given the few elements presented during the trial” and found this death sentence “particularly disturbing” , spokesman David Jordens responded in a press release Friday night.

Jean-Jacques Wondo of Belgium is one of 37 defendants sentenced to death on Friday by a military court in Kinshasa in the trial of the “coup d’état attempt” that the Democratic Republic of Congo’s army said from in May.

Foreign Affairs described this death sentence as “particularly disturbing”. “Belgium takes this issue seriously and has denied that the moratorium on the death penalty has been lifted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo several times, both some in public and during bilateral communications.”

The FPS Foreign Affairs also reiterates that they are following the case closely, although Wondo’s family has criticized the lack of support for her.
