The reigning English football champion Manchester City won midfielder Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a record 117.5 million euros (100 million pounds).
It is the most expensive transfer in the history of the Premier League. The 25-year-old English representative has signed a six-year contract with “Citizens”, AFP reported. Grealish confirmed his qualities at the recent European Championships in 2020 and helped “Albion” to advance to the finals.
“I am incredibly happy to have moved to Manchester City. It is the best team in the country with a coach who is considered the best in the world. Citizens have won prestigious trophies for the past ten seasons. Pep Guardiola took them to the next level. Learning from him is something special and every top footballer would like it. I can’t wait to join the team and meet everyone, ” quoted the words of the midfielder, who will run for the matches in the jersey with the number 10, the AFP agency.
City coach Pep Guardiola described him as an “exceptional player” last year and did not hide his desire to get him on the team. Along with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, Grealish was City’s top priority in the transfer market.
Director of Manchester City Little Begiristain introduced Grealish as an incredible talent: “Jack’s development in the club and the national team has been evident in recent years. Thanks to his talent and determination to improve, he is one of the most promising offensive players today. I’m sure the fans will be happy to see him. Pep loves his style of play and we all feel he is the perfect solution for Manchester. ”
The player, who has worked at Aston Villa since he was six, will move the transition to Etihad Stadium significantly forward. He will play the Champions League with the club and will attack the highest goals in every competition.
Until now, Paul Pogbu, who came from Juventus to Manchester United in 2016 for a record 105 million (£ 89 million), was the record for the highest English competition.
