The outgoing winter is the warmest for the last 136 years in Bulgaria and the second warmest in Europe. This is shown by the data of forecaster and climatologist Simeon Matev, which he presented in the analysis “Contemporary climate changes in Bulgaria”.

According to the data, the global temperature in February again crossed the threshold of 1.5 degrees, registering a value of 1.77 degrees. For the past 12 months, the average global temperature is the highest recorded in the world. In Europe, February was also significantly warmer than normal and had the second highest positive anomaly, which was 3.30 °C above the 1991–2020 normal.

In Bulgaria, February was the warmest for the last 58 years, with the average monthly anomaly for the country being more than 5 degrees, and along the Danube and in the Pre-Balkans it was even more than 7. There was no snow cover on any day during the month in the flat part of the country, including the high western fields, as well as in Sofia.

After Europe recorded its warmest winter last year, this year ranks second, being 1.44 degrees warmer than the norm for the period 1991-2020. In Bulgaria, last winter was the warmest for the last 136 years, with winter records mainly due to warm February.
