Ford will tackle Pikes Peak with a special version of the F-150 Lightning.

Ford has announced that it is working on a special version of the F-150 Lightning with which it will participate in the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the famous “race to the clouds” to be held on June 23 in Colorado, USA.

The American brand has released a teaser of the electric pickup truck it will use for the event, explaining only that it will not be a production model, but a special version, similar to the Supervan 4.2based on the E-Transit Custom developed at Pikes Peak in 2023 by Stohl Advanced Research and Development (STARD) and equipped with three electric motors, one on the front axle and two on the rear axle, generating a combined power of 1,400 hp.

The three electric motors are powered by a set of STARD Ultra High Performance Li-Polymer NMC cells. In addition, the energy recovery capacity is 600 kW. The Supervan even set a new record in the Open Division by completing the 20 km of winding mountain roads in 8 minutes and 47.682 seconds.

It is worth noting that Ford recently radical version of the electric pickup truck developed by Ford Performance in collaboration with Vaughn Gittin Jr. and RTR Vehicles, equipped with two motors, one per axle, generating a total of 580 hp and powered by a 131 kWh “long-range” battery.
