Ford will bring to market a new SUV created in collaboration with Volkswagen

Ford has released a series of teaser images predicting a new electric SUV. It looks like it will be built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.

Ford officials have released two images that foreshadow the launch of a new electric SUV in the future, it writes Engine1.

Ford has decided it will remove several models from its range, including the Fiesta or Focus. These models will be replaced by electric cars and the first launch will be in the form of an electric mid-size SUV, which will be produced at the Cologne plant.

One of the teasers was posted on LinkedIn by Martin Sander, general manager of the Ford Model team and Europe. The other photo was posted on Chirping by Ford of Europe Marketing Manager, Peter Zillig. Details about the electric SUV remain a mystery. Apart from the fact that it will be built on the MEB platform developed by the Volkswagen Group, no other details are known. However, it may have similar specifications to the Volkswagen ID.4.

As can be seen from the shape masked by the protective tarpaulin, the SUV has much more angular proportions than the others Volkswagen ID.4. The design team probably tried to give the new model a distinct look so that it would stand out from its Volkswagen counterpart.

The company has confirmed that this mid-size SUV will offer 500 kilometers of range on a single charge. As for the sporty variant, it could use the twin-engine configuration of the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX. In the case of that model, the two engines deliver about 300 horsepower.

So far, Ford has ventured into the world of electric cars with the Mustang Mach-E SUV or the F-150 Lightning electric pickup. The partnership with Volkswagen is not exactly new, especially if we take into account that the new Ford Ranger shares the technical platform with the Volkswagen Amarok.
