Ford Slows Production of Electric F-150 Lightning Truck – Shifts Focus to Other Models and Addresses Dealership Concerns

The American car manufacturer Ford has reconfirmed that the manufacturer will slightly slow down the production of the electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck this year – if it was originally planned to produce around 3,200 vehicles per week in 2024, then Ford decided to produce around 1,600 units. The manufacturer has already explained that the production volume will be adjusted to the actual demand.

The manufacturer announced in its press release that approximately 700 employees will be transferred from the electric car plant to another plant where the Bronco and Bronco Raptor models are produced on a daily basis, and it is also planned to start production of the Ranger and Ranger Raptor. In total, the changes will affect about 1,400 people, who will be offered jobs in other Ford structures or will be allowed to retire.

To provide three shifts at the plant where the Bronco and Ranger are made, Ford will bring in additional workers, making production seven days a week, three shifts. Currently, production runs five days a week. Ford predicts that sales of electric cars will continue to rise, but not as fast as previously predicted.

True, it has already been reported that only half of Ford dealers in the US have applied for certification to service electric cars. This is due to the necessary investments, which can exceed even a million dollars, as the dealers believe that the investments in the specific location will not pay off in the foreseeable future. Ford, however, has tried to address this issue, stating that in most of the US territory, within a radius of about 30-40 kilometers, there will be a Ford dealer in any case, who will be able to provide maintenance for electric models.
