Ford Mustang Mach 1 is coming to Europe. He is ready to make a fuss on the road and on the racing circuits

Ford has begun delivering the new Mach 1 Mustang to European customers. Of all the Mustang variants that have officially been offered in Europe, Mach 1 is most strongly focused on sports driving on a racing circuit.

Behind the driving performance worthy of the legendary Mach 1 designation is a specially tuned 5.0 V8 engine with an output of 338 kW / 460 hp, improved aerodynamics, enhanced cooling and modifications to the chassis and drive chain.

The Mustang Mach 1 creates 22 percent more downforce than the Mustang GT and can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds. The exterior design of the car corresponds to the dynamic potential with a distinctive styling, inspired by the world of racing cars.

“The Mustang has not become the world’s best-selling sports car for nothing, but the Mach 1 will move it even higher in the hearts of sports car fans on this side of the Atlantic.” said Mach 1 Mustang chief designer for Europe Matthias Tonn. “Whether on the road or on the circuit, the new Mach 1 is the most talented Mustang ever to reach Europe, and it more than deserves a legendary designation.”

Thoroughbred performance

For the Mustang Mach 1, the all-aluminum Ford V8 engine was equipped with an open air filter, a specific intake manifold, 87 mm diameter throttles and an injection system consisting of a combination of direct and indirect injection. The result is the highest output of 338 kW / 460 hp at 7250 rpm and torque of 529 Nm at 4900 rpm.

An additional engine oil cooler and a new oil filter adapter ensure optimum lubricant flow and consistent performance even under high load on the race track.

Customers of the Mach 1 Mustang have a choice of two robust, precise gearboxes, designed for frequent shifting at high speeds. For the first time on the European market, a six-stage TREMEC 3160 manual box with a two-disc clutch is available in the production Mustang. It features short shift paths, uses automatic downshift technology when downshifting, and allows you to shift into higher gears without decelerating.

The technically advanced Ford automatic transmission with 10 gears has an improved torque converter in the Mach 1 Mustang and a specific calibration, adapted to the car’s sporty focus.

Both gearboxes are equipped with their own oil cooler, the self-locking differential is also cooled. In addition, the machine has a second oil cooler, which increases the cooling capacity by another 75 percent.

A new two-part upper grille, a new lower grille, side grilles and also a spoiler under the bumper appear on the bow. All this contributes to better aerodynamics and more efficient cooling. The lower parts are covered with ribs that guide the cooling air to the brakes. A specific rear spoiler and diffuser ensure an even distribution of aerodynamic forces between the front and rear axles. The Mustang Mach 1 also got a more efficient brake booster with faster response. Thanks to the six-piston Brembo brakes, it can stop from a speed of 100 km / h to less than 32 meters.

In addition to the new electronic power steering calibration, MagneRide shock absorbers with electronically controlled magnetorheological charge, whose tuning in the Mach 1 Mustang corresponds to stiffer springs and torsional stabilizers, are behind the sharpest steering response of all Mustangs sold in Europe.

The axles and some suspension components were taken from the North American Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT500 models. The 19-inch alloy wheels are half an inch (127 mm) wide at the front and rear and are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 sports tires.

Like other Mustang variants, Mach 1 offers switchable driving modes, including Sport and Track modes. Behind the Track Apps label is an accelerometer, a timer and a launch control function – all displayed on a standard 12-inch digital instrument panel.

A look inspired by motorsport

Since 1969, one of the key aspects of the Mach 1 Mustang has been the distinctive racing car-style design. In the case of the latest generation, the aerodynamic elements from the front grilles to the rear spoiler are painted black and gray. The specific 19-inch wheels were given a low-gloss Dark Tarnish finish.

We offer eight combinations of body paint and decorative stripes: gray Fighter Jet with black-orange stripes; silver Iconic, black Shadow and white Oxford with black-red stripes; and Blue Velocity, Orange Twister, Red Race and Yellow Grabber with black and white stripes. The legendary Mach 1 logo appears on the rear and both front fenders. The sports exhaust system with active valve and four 4.5-inch (114 mm) end caps gives the car, in addition to the unmistakable sound, a unique look.

Leather sports seats are sewn with seams in gray Metal. On the dashboard there is a plaque with the Mach 1 logo and the serial number of the car within the series. Mach 1 is also specific to the sills and the welcome screen on the digital instrument panel. Standard equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, a Ford SYNC 3.5 communication and entertainment system, a premium B&O audio system with 12 speakers or a FordPass Connect modem for online connection.

“A real Mustang Mach 1 has to look fast, even when it’s motionless.” Tonn said. “Functional aerodynamics and exclusive details inspired by motorsport will leave sports car fans in no doubt that this Mustang is serious – and only when it hits the race track!”
