Ford introduces the Ranger Raptor, a frantic pickup truck heading to Europe

The Raptor variant was originally set aside for the larger F150 pick-up, which is not sold in Europe. With the introduction of this version even for the smaller ranger of the last generation, the sport utility vehicle also reached Europe. The same is true of the news.

Visually, they differ, for example, by the radiator grille, the seats inside or the unmistakable inscriptions on the side of the body. But he was never just a visual raptor.

The main novelty is the engine. In the last generation, the diesel two-liter engine did not suit the sharp character of the raptor, but the new generation is also powered by a six-cylinder petrol engine. The three-liter fork engine supercharged by two turbochargers has an output of 212 kW, 288 hp, and a torque of 491 Nm.

The sound system is to be provided by an exhaust system with an electronically controlled flap in four modes. Also new is the so-called anti-lag system, which keeps the turbochargers running for up to three seconds after the accelerator pedal is released, leading to a faster recovery of the turbocharger boost pressure and better cornering acceleration as soon as the driver starts accelerating again.

The engine works with a ten-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The chassis again underwent major changes compared to the standard ranger. The Raptor has specific reinforcements and body mounts in the area of c-pillars, body and spare wheel. Others are also suspension stops, as well as the attachment of suspension elements.

The suspension, suspension and damping themselves have undergone a complete overhaul. Lightweight but strong aluminum arms, long-stroke suspension and an improved Watt guide at the rear ensure accuracy and stability when driving fast on uneven surfaces.

“The changes to the Ranger Raptor’s chassis take full advantage of Fox’s shock absorbers with Live Valve technology. When driving on the road, they minimize unwanted tilting of the body in the transverse and longitudinal axes, while outside the asphalt they masterfully absorb larger terrain unevenness and ruts, “said chief designer Dave Burn.

An unpleasant hardening is to be prevented by a technical solution that increases the damping effect to the maximum in the last 25 percent of the shock’s stroke. During rapid acceleration, the system then hardens the rear shock absorbers to prevent the front wheels from being relieved excessively.

The novelty will appear on the European market later this year, the carmaker has not yet announced its prices.
