Today, the Blue Oval officially represents the rejuvenated version of the fourth-generation Focus. Inside we will find a number of novelties, but not all of them will be considered by motorists as a change for the better.

The fourth successor Ford Focus introduced itself to the world in the spring of 2018, when the Blue Oval celebrated the twentieth anniversary of its cult model. After three and a half years, it was time for a rejuvenation procedure that brought so much news that it would easily put a brand new generation elsewhere.

The list of innovations is opened by a redesigned bow with a more pronounced mask and other bumpers. The goal of the designers was supposedly to make the individual equipment lines – Trend Edition, Titanium, ST-Line – even more different from each other. The offer continues to offer a more adventurous Active concept inspired by the world of crossovers, ie with plastic-coated body parts. This version and the sporty ST-Line can also be supplemented with a Vignale design with rich equipment and a specific appearance of selected elements.
The lighting technology is fully diode. Standard full-LED headlights can be replaced on request with Dynamic Pixel LED technology, which does not dazzle oncoming cars, illuminates corners, adapts to bad weather and follows traffic signs, thus adapting the light to the situation so that the pedestrian or cyclist can see better. The design of the hood has also changed and the carmaker’s logo has moved from its lower part to the mask.

Inside, the main change is the new generation of the SYNC 4 multimedia system with cloud navigation and voice control. The center screen now has a 13.2-inch diagonal, and Ford boasts of being the largest display in the segment. As you probably already know, the deployment of a huge display is also related to the minimization of physical buttons and controls. You can no longer set the temperature and other functions in the car classically, but by tapping on the lower part of the screen. If Ford remained backward in this regard, we would not be angry at all. Infotainment also provides wireless updates, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto services and, last but not least, pairing the car with a smartphone, so you carry all the important info in your pocket.
The assistance systems have not been forgotten either. Improved blind spot monitoring, which captures the area behind the car to a distance of up to 28 meters twenty times per second and works at intervals of 65 to 200 km / h. When there is a risk of a collision with a vehicle in a parallel lane, where the driver is about to cross, there will be not only a light indication, but also the opposite impulse to the steering. In the multimedia system, you can also set the length and width of the trailer so that the assistant takes into account its towing. The junction assistant makes sure that there is no collision with another vehicle, for example when turning, but there is also adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision assistant and a reminder of the occupied rear seats.

The range of power units relies on the liter three-cylinder EcoBoost with 74, 92 and 114 kW. The first two mentioned versions are purely combustion, but the middle one can be (and the last is always) a mild-hybrid with a 48V on-board network, which helps to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Variable timing of intake and exhaust valves and high-pressure direct fuel injection help for smart acceleration. In addition to the six-speed manual transmission, selected versions can be combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Those interested in diesel can reach for the 1.5-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel with an output of 88 kW, which is combined with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. However, the press release does not mention a word about the 15-liter petrol and the two-liter diesel that were offered by its predecessor.
What fortunately remains the 2.3 EcoBoost unit for the sharp version of the ST. The four-cylinder petrol turbocharged with two-way turbocharger with anti-lag system still has 206 kW (280 hp) and 420 newton meters of torque. The six-step manual can be equipped with an automatic downshift speed function. Alternatively, you can choose a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifting under the steering wheel. An electronically controlled self-locking differential or optional adaptive shock absorbers, the effect of which varies up to 500 times per second depending on driving situations, must not be missing on board the sports “estéčka”. Fortunately, everything (except the controls) stayed here the same way.
Hooray three times!
